Contouring and highlight became a thing last year when high-end brands were launching kits of their own. Two brands in particular, Anastasia Beverly Hills and Kat Von D, were always sold out because of their famous contour and highlight kits. Now, the problem with this phenomenon was that there was no drugstore alternative that was accessible. Fortunately a couple of drugstore brands have finally came out with their own version like NYX Cosmetics.

Product description from their website:

"Define your features like a pro with our refillable highlight and contour palette! Each set includes eight customizable highlighting and contouring shades perfect for emphasizing your favorite features. [...]"

The NYX Highlight & Contour PRO Palette has 8 colours namely Ice Queen (HCPS01), Soft Light (HCPS02), Cream (HCPS03), Nectar (HCPS04), Tan (HCPS05), Toffee (HCPS06), Sculpt (HCPS07) and Hollow (HCPS08). When you buy the palette itself in store, it would already come with the shades that I just mentioned. If some of the shades are too light or too dark, they have 4 more shades available called Bone, Sienna, Saddle and Soft Peach. I don't know if you could mix and match the shades when you purchase online or in stores but they do sell them individually which you can see here. And this retails for CAD$26.99 or CAD$27.

THOUGHTS?

I was honestly hesitant to buy this palette because I heard more bad reviews than good ones. They were all saying that it was chalky, looks muddy on the face and it's hard to blend out. Truthfully, I did not experience any of those things at all. I don't know if NYX changed their formula because this palette is so blendable! I was amazed with its blend-ability and how it does not look chalky at all on my face. If anything, it looks incredible and its so pigmented. I love all the contour shades and the yellow shade in the palette! Ever since I bought this, I have used it more than my Kat Von D palette. Actually, in my opinion its comparable to the SHADE & LIGHT palette by Kat Von D. It's THAT good!

I would admit that it is a bit powdery but that's the consequence of it being really pigmented. They could improve more on the highlighters mostly Nectar because its not giving me that disco ball effect. Although Ice Queen is really pigmented and gives me that glow I want, its too light for me.

I think the way of application of any product is important too. For contour shades, I believe that the brush that people should use is something that's not too dense and packed together. I use a duo fibre stippling brush for whenever I contour and it really helps blend out the product more plus it captures less product. I used to use the usual contour brush which makes any contour shades look cakey on me.

I hope this review helped anyone of you who were thinking of getting this palette. Its such a good palette! Honestly, don't let those bad reviews stop you from buying the product because it may not have worked for them but it could work on you. If it doesn't, you could always return it. Right?

Have a blessed day!

  1. I just ordered some liquid lipsticks from NYX and I have been eyeing the contour palette for a while! I've heard mixed reviews but it's worth giving it a try. I tried the ABH cream contour palette and it's SO hard to blend! I would especially like to get this to contour my face for my engagement pictures.

    1. Ohhh! I've been wanting to try out the NYX Liquid Suede and the NYX Lingerie! Unfortunately, it's not yet available in any of the drugstores here. Yeah, I figured the cream contour is a bit difficult to blend out because that's what I was worried about too! Yes you should! This is a really good palette to try and not bad for the price! ;) xx
